Candle Safety & Jar Reuse Guide

Candles bring warmth and ambiance to any space, but using them improperly can be dangerous. To fully enjoy your obee candle while keeping your home safe, follow these important guidelines. Plus, when your candle has burned its last, don’t throw the jar - learn how to safely clean and repurpose it!

BEFORE LIGHTING YOUR CANDLE

• Trim the wick to 5 mm (¼ inch) before each use. This ensures a steady, even flame, prevents excess soot, and helps the candle last longer. A wick trimmer will make this easy.

• Place your candle in a stable, fire-safe area. Keep it away from anything flammable like curtains, books, or furniture.

• Keep out of reach of children and pets. Ensure it’s on a surface where it won’t get knocked over.

WHILE YOUR CANDLE IS BURNING

• Burn in 4-hour sessions. Letting a candle burn too long can overheat the container.

• Never leave a candle unattended. If you leave the room, blow it out first.

• Do not burn while sleeping. This can lead to serious accidents.

• Stop burning when 10 mm (⅜ inch) of wax remains. Burning too low can cause the glass to overheat or crack.

• Avoid excessive drafts. To get the most fragrance, limit open windows in the first 30 minutes of burning.

• Monitor the flame. If it flickers too much or burns too high, extinguish it, trim the wick, and relight once cooled.

AFTER EXTINGUISHING YOUR CANDLE

• Use a candle snuffer instead of water to safely put out the flame.

• Ensure the candle is fully out before leaving the room—no glowing embers should remain.

• Let it cool before handling. The glass and wax stay hot for a while after burning.

• Store in a cool, dry place. Keep your candle away from direct sunlight to maintain its quality.

• Clean off dust before relighting. A simple wipe can prevent buildup and keep your candle burning properly.

HOW TO SAFELY REUSE CANDLE JARS

Once your candle is finished, don’t throw the jar away! With proper cleaning, you can repurpose it for storage, decoration, or DIY projects.

Removing Leftover Wax

1. Freezer Method (Best for Sturdy Glass Jars)

• Place the jar in the freezer for a few hours.

• The wax will shrink and pop out easily.

• Use a spoon to gently lift any remaining wax.

2. Hot Water Method (For Scratch-Prone Jars)

• Pour warm (not boiling) water into the jar, leaving space at the top.

• Let it sit for a few minutes—wax will melt and float to the surface.

• Once cooled, remove the wax and wash with soap.

3. Double Boiler Method (For Large Wax Residues)

• Place the candle jar in a bowl of warm water.

• Let the heat loosen the wax, then wipe it out with a paper towel.

Cleaning the Jar

• Use warm soapy water and a soft sponge to remove any wax residue.

• Avoid using sharp objects or harsh scrubbing tools, especially on jars with delicate finishes.

Ways to Repurpose Your Jar

• Storage: Perfect for cotton pads, makeup brushes, spices, or office supplies.

• Planters: Small succulents or herbs thrive in repurposed candle jars.

• DIY Projects: Turn it into a mini lantern, a coin jar, or even a homemade candle holder.

By following these safety tips and reuse ideas, you can enjoy your candle to the fullest while giving its jar a second life!
